A Legacy of Support: The Amputee Federation of NZ

Empowering amputees since 1947, we’ve grown from a dedicated group into a nationwide federation, committed to enhancing the lives of amputees through support, technology, and community.

History

Founded in 1947, the New Zealand Civilian Amputees Association Incorporated emerged to support civilian amputees, distinguishing its mission from the War Amputees Association. By 1984, it was renamed the Amputees Federation of NZ Incorporated, marking a pivotal evolution in its commitment to serving amputees nationwide.

The Federation’s journey has been one of advocacy, support, and continuous growth, ensuring amputees receive the care, technology, and community backing essential for their welfare. Celebrating significant milestones, the Federation published “A Challenge with Purpose” in 2002, documenting its first 50 years, followed by “Moving Forward” in 2022, covering the subsequent 25 years. These publications underscore the enduring dedication to enhancing amputees’ lives across New Zealand.
